Addis Ababa, Nov 22 (Prensa Latina) Ethiopian security forces seized dozens of illegal firearms in Debre Berhane, a town only 120 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, news programs reported on Thursday.
A report from the Fana Broadcasting Corporate radio station stated that about 50 AK-47, a rocket launcher and 40 magazines of bullet were seized.
The mentioned media pointed out that the ammunitions were smuggled in a truck, from Gambella region.
The National Information and Security Service was clandestinely following the routes of the truck and was finally captured in Debre Berhane, the report concluded.
Practices of this kind are relatively common in some Ethiopian areas, with people using firearms to protect against blood feuds and as a personal trophy.
Criminals also use these artifacts to commit robberies or provide them to minor rebel groups that carry out an armed struggle against the government.
